Farid Kazimi

Herat — هرات — sits at the crossroads of Central Asia, Persia, and the Indian subcontinent. Under the Timurid dynasty in the 15th century it became one of the great cultural capitals of the world, producing celebrated poets, miniature painters, calligraphers, and architects whose geometric ornament and refined palette still define the aesthetic of the region. The colors on this page draw from that tradition: lapis from the mountains of Badakhshan, turquoise from the glazed brickwork of the old city, gold from the illuminated manuscripts of the Herat school.
